Flood wreaks havoc in Nnewi

Residents of Egbu Umuenem, Otolo Nnewi community in Nnewi, Anambra State, have cried for help, following a flood disaster that hit the community at the weekend, destroying buildings, household property  and killing domestic animals.
Checks by Daily Sun revealed that worst hit, were residents of St. Thomas Church axis and Igwe Orizu Junction-Egbu Umuenem Otolo Nnewi-Awka Etiti Road. They blamed the persistent flood after each downpour on poorly constructed drainage system in the area.
The disaster also caused gridlock that lasted for hours. President General of Egbu community, Mr Anosike Hugo, lamented the massive destruction caused by the flood and appealed to Anambra State Government to come to the rescue of the community.
Also, a youth leader in the area, Mr. Kenechukwu Okeke, urged government to come to the rescue of the flood victims and find a lasting solution to the problem.
The contractor handling the road project in the affected area was quoted as saying the construction was based on specified standard.
