2015: MURTALA’S SON JOINS KANO GOVERNORSHIP BATTLE.

2015: MURTALA’S SON JOINS KANO GOVERNORSHIP BATTLE.

Surviving son of the late Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed, Abba Risqua Mohammed, has said that he is under intense pressure to contest the governorship of Kano State in 2015.

Abba said the pressure was coming from various groups both in Kano and other parts of Nigeria, to take a shot at the Kano governorship race.

He said: “Nearly on daily basis, calls kept coming that I should participate in the contest for the Kano highest seat, and on my part, I kept talking to people of great influence and political strategy, to advise me on how best to answer these clarion calls.”

Abba, who sometimes in 2003 and 2007, participated in the House of Representatives elections, but failed to Ghali Naaba, from Kano municipality, hinted that his political maturity has grown beyond what many saw then, when he brought to the fore, politics of respect and understanding.

He similarly told newsmen at a mini-dinner he organised for journalists in Kano that his participation in politics is not ‘a do-or-die affair’ as he believes that only God gives power to any one he so wishes.

“In other words, I’m saying that I have accepted to participate, because no one will turn away calls of elders, more specifically many of whom were my late father’s friends and believers, so I will contest; but not with character assassination, I will show the way, politics should be a brotherly affair, which I know Kano is used to.”

Abba further noted that his mission to contest the Kano State governorship seat is to make the state and indeed Nigeria, once more great and make it a place worthy of living with dignity and love, adding that Kano right now is yearning for serious presence of investors and investments for it to retake its lost commercial glory.

“I will work in unison with people of like minds to make Kano great again, the dream of my father and many people that were close to him, and I have the know-how and techniques to do it, I have great ideas of how to make places great.

“I have been an adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, I’m matured enough to steer the ship of a great state like Kano,” Abba proudly said.

It will be recalled that sometimes last month, a lobby group from across the state, staged a peaceful demonstration and workshop, calling for Abba to contest the Kano governorship election, a gathering that saw women, children and old people participating
