Adamawa guber: It’s central zone’s turn – PDP stakeholders

Acting gov not anointed candidate – Zwingina
Major stakeholders in Adamawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have settled for the Central senatorial district producing the next governor.
The state goes for the guber poll on October 11 this year. The stakeholders claimed the zone was yet to produce governor. Former Governor Murtala Nyako was impeached last month.
Daily Sun learnt that the zoning decision was reached, after marathon meetings held in Yola, the state capital and attended by some of the governorship aspirants, key party stakeholders and leaders drawn from the 21 Local Government Areas. Sources said the stakeholders were unanimous in “placating the politically-disadvantaged Central zone which is politically excluded despite its numerical strength.”
One of the sources said during the Nyako administration, the Central zone did not occupy any of the top five positions in the state, adding that the situation did not change, even with his impeachment, because the Acting Governor is from the northern zone.
“The Northern senatorial zone stands out as the highest beneficiary in terms of occupying prestigious political offices, both elective and appointive, among the zones. They produced three governors, Saleh Michika, Boni Haruna and Wilberfore Juta as well as two deputy governors; David Barau and James Ngilari. Three Speakers, Paul Wampana, Ahmed Gulak and Ahmadu Fintiri, are all front  for the northern zone.
“Presently, the Acting Governor as well as two ministers; Haruna and Zainab Maina, are all from northern zone. The southern senatorial zone has produced two governors and a deputy governor. They are Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd) and Chief Lynn Nathan.
“In considering the zoning of the governorship to the Central zone, it would not be out of place to zone the position of the deputy governor to the South in particular to the Ganye chiefdom which comprises Toungo, Jada and Ganye,” one of the sources noted.
The meeting has since resolved to forward its position to the national headquarters of the PDP in Abuja and through it, to the party leader, President Goodluck Jonathan.
Meanwhile, a former Deputy Senate Leader, Dr. Jonathan Silas Zwingina, said yesterday the Acting Governor, who is also an aspirant, Ahmadu Fintiri, was never an anointed candidate of the Presidency, as being speculated.
The Chairman of the 20-member Fintiri Campaign Organisation, told journalists that the Acting Governor does not believe in being anointed by President Jonathan, nor anyone but by God, who is the one that enthrones and dethrones.
Zwingina, former Senate Committee Chairman on Information, said the campaign team will promote Fintiri’s ideals because the efforts he has put in place to reposition the state within six weeks of his administration.
“Our principal is the aspirant to beat in the next PDP primary. His efforts in rehabilitating the deplorable infrastructure are eloquent testimonies of the performance of the Acting Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri,” he said. According to the chairman, some members of other political parties have or are planning to decamp to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as a result of the performance of Fintiri, while a lot of some politicians have identified with the cause if Fintiri becomes the next governor.
