Controversy has continued to trail the mysterious death of Titilayo and her husband Kola, and the diaappearance of a set of twins delivered by Titilayo a day before her lifeless body was found in her one-room apartment at 23, Temidire Street in Ajowa in Ado Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Kola was also found murdered and dumped in a canal in Oke-Ila of the same council area the same day Titilayo was discovered dead.
The police had said Kola was the prime suspect in Titilayo’s death and the missing twins, until they found the man’s body that same evening.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Victor Babayemi, while confirming the discovery of Titilayo’s body, had said: “I was at the scene of crime myself and saw Titilayo’s body in her one-room apartment on Temidire Street in Ajowa community on Saturday (August 9) morning. We have moved the body to the mortuary and commenced investigations immediately. We have a case of homicide and child stealing on our hand and the prime suspect in this wise is the husband of Titilayo, Kola, who has not been seen.
We will address the press on the matter shortly.”
On the same day, at about 9:31pm, the PPRO also announced that the police had found Kola’s body in a canal around a place not very far from Ajowa community. Babayemi said Kola was found murdered and dumped in a canal around Oke-Ila area of Ado Local Government Area.
His words: “The police have also found the body of the husband to the late Titilayo. He was found murdered and dumped in a canal in Oke-Ila, Ado-Ekiti. The twins are yet to be found. Investigation is in top gear to find the twins as well as the killer(s) of the couple.”
While reporting Titilayo’s death last Sunday, August 10, the reporter had included the involvement of two other men in Titilayo’s life apart from the late Kola. One was the first man she was said to have her first two children for, according to her colleagues at the bakery, where she and Kola had worked, while the second, her boyfriend, was rumoured to have impregnated her over nine months ago.
The incident, her colleagues and some residents of Ajowa community said, made Kola to distance himself from Titilayo, probably for fear of clashing with the yet-to-be identified boyfriend.
Insinuating that either of these two other men might be behind the sad development, residents in the area who spoke to Daily Sun on condition of anonymity gave different views on this probability.
Some of them suspected that Titilayo’s boyfriend, known only as a vulcanizer in the area, could be behind the murder of the couple and disappearance of the twins because Titilayo hurt him by chasing him away and denying that he was responsible for the pregnancy of the twins.
Others suspected that Kola, who is now deceased, could have been the culprit and victim at the same time because he might still be nursing grudges against his wife over the rumoured adultery and pregnancy for the third man.
While the PPRO had assured that investigation had been in top gear since the discovery of Kola’s body, there had not been any response on the matter from him, particularly on whether the third man, who allegedly impregnated Titilayo for the twins, had been apprehended and being interrogated.
