In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, the governor said the late professor emeritus would be sorely missed by the academia, the intellectual community in general and the Nigerian nation at large whom he contributed his “seminal thoughts” to its growth while alive. The governor said Ade-Ajayi’s death was a personal loss to the people of Oyo State because the late professor of History, for decades until his death, found solace in the ancient city of Ibadan.
Also, Ekiti State Governor-elect, Ayo Fayose, has described the death of the renowned historian and former vice chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as a great loss to Nigeria and particularly, the people of Ekiti State.
Former governor of Ogun State, Otuba Gbenga Daniel, described late Professor Ajayi as an iconic historian whose death literally closed a glorious chapter in Nigeria’s academic history.
In a condolence statement issued by his media officer, Mr. Ayo Giwa, the former governor recalled Ajayi’s role in the documentation of history of Africa, which he said was respected beyond the shores of the continent.
Daniel noted that the deceased was instrumental to making African History a branch of academic discipline.
