Court stops Osun panel of enquiry from investigating Omisore

Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has secured an interim order from the state High Court to prevent the panel of enquiry on disturbance of public peace set up by Governor Rauf Aregbesola from investigating him.
The chairman of the commission, Justice Moshood Adeigbe, said at the resumed sitting of the commission yesterday that the panel had received a court order from the State High Court ordering it to maintain the status quo pending the ruling on the application filed by Omisore before it.
The panel had summoned Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan and Senator Omisore before it following a petition filed by Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who alleged that both Adesiyan and Omisore assaulted him during a stakeholders meeting of the PDP in Osogbo.
Adeleke, who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), also alleged that Omisore and Adesiyan threatened him during the meeting and urged the commission to investigate the allegation.
Omisore, who had refused to appear before the panel, said the commission lacked the power to investigate him.
Meanwhile, counsel to the petitioner, Mr. Lekan Olayiwola, has urged the panel to allow the petitioner go on with the hearing of the matter, despite the interim order of the court.
Justice Adeigbe, however, noted that the panel is lower to the High Court and could not disobey its order. He thereby, adjourned the sitting till August 19, 2014, pending the time the court will determine the interim order.
