Customs intercepts sacks of Indian hemp ‘Tokunbo’ clothes

The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a consignment containing 234 wraps of Indian hemp, carefully concealed in fairly used clothes and pairs of shoes, popularly known as ‘Tokunbo.’
The Customs Controller in the area, Richard Oteri, in a statement issued in Ibadan, said the consignment was intercepted when it was being transported from the Benin Republic/Nigeria border in Ago-Are in Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State.
He said hard drugs were packed in four big sacks, adding that suspected transporters of the weeds were at large.
His words: “On August 1, the command made a seizure of 234 wraps of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) packed in four big sacks. The hard drugs were seized along Ago-Are axis of the Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State. These drugs were concealed with bales of fairly-used clothes and shoes.”
He said the drugs had been handed over to the Oyo State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mrs Omobolade Faboyede, on August 6 for further actions..
While warning people of questionable character to desist from the illegal business or be made to face the full wrath of the law, Oteri promised that the command would not relent in its efforts to keep the Oyo/Osun axis free from illicit goods that could be harmful to the nation’s health and economy.
