2015 presidency: APC NWC in crucial meeting

Ahead of the party’s presidential convention, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the main opposition party in the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday had a closed-door meeting.
Daily Sun checks revealed that the agenda of the meeting was the modality for the conduct of the convention to produce the party’s presidential candidate.
It was further revealed that loyalists of former presidential candidate of the defunct CPC and one of the APC presidential hopefuls, General Muhammadu Buhari were against the modified direct primary, a stance which has put the APC National Working Committee in a quandary.
A Daily Sun source disclosed that the meeting held last night was to ensure that the party took a position to accommodate Buhari’s loyalists who were insisting on direct primary as enshrined in the party’s constitution and in compliance with the Electoral Act.
Meanwhile, a  group, Vanguard of Progressive Change, (women wing), has called on the leaders of the party to ensure a transparent exercise to produce the party presidential candidate.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja yesterday and signed by the Forum leader, Ekema Joy Edit, they cautioned against the speculated move by certain leaders of the party to impose a presidential candidate.
“In the light of the foregoing we of the Vanguard of Progressive Change women wing vow to go naked in the street to impose a curse and invoke the spirit of our ancestors against any sons and daughters of the land that are masquerading as leaders of our party.”
“There is no doubt that the emergence of our party is not for the selfish interest where the end justifies the means but rather it is a product of the desire and aspirations of the people for a change in our country.
“Any attempt by any persons to impose any Presidential Candidate will not only be treated as political sabotage, as we can no longer fold our arms to watch someone destroy our collective patrimony.
“We want to take our destiny in our own hands this time around, and we will resist any attempt to stop or suppress internal democracy in our party. “We will go all out unrestrained to exhibit where the impostor  and benefactors came from.
“Internal democracy is the only remedy to avert the doomsday for the APC if imposition is the order of the day.”
The group however endorsed the presidential aspiration of Kano state governor,  Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso.
“Kwankwanso is one man Nigerians are looking up to in solving our political, social and economic problems. We therefore implore this young and dynamic leader to throw in his hat  into the ring”.
