Dimgba Igwe’s exit: Abone, Igbo forum, Gambian bank, others mourn

Service of songs holds tomorrow in Lagos
 Tributes continue to pour in for the late Vice Chairman of The Sun Publishing Limited, Pastor Dimgba Igwe, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver on September 6, while jogging around his Okota home in  Lagos State.Top on the list of visitors to The Sun Corporate Office were executive members of Worldwide United Forum for Igbo Patriots and Aborigines (WUFIPA), who described the late Igwe as a worthy patriot. The group, led by its National President, Comrade Chukwudire Onyeka, applauded Igwe’s enormous contributions, both as a journalist and an author, to the development of the journalism profession, as well as his numerous books chronicling invaluable lessons  from the lives of notable Nigerians.
“We mourn the loss of a worthy son of Igboland and above all, an intellectual, which is rare,”  the group’s chairman stated.
The treasurer, Chijoke Ikechukwu, who also commiserated with The Sun family, said the perpetrator of the dastardly act would have been arrested if the necessary security gadgets, like CCTV had been in place.
Also, First Inland Bank in its condolence letter to The Sun Publishing Ltd, signed by the Managing Director, Momodou Musa, condoled with The Sun on Igwe’s death.
“The death of Pastor Dimgba Igwe is a surprise and shock to all. We use this medium to condole with the Igwe family and The Sun family on the loss of one of the pioneer staff of your newspaper.
“We have no doubt that Pastor Dimgba Igwe was a journalist of great repute within and outside Nigeria. His footprint in journalism and his religious life will ever be remembered,” Musa stated.
Vice Chairman of SLOK Group, Revd Emeka Abone, in his tribute, said he would miss Igwe’s useful inputs at their committee and board meetings.
“Certainly, an important lesson to be learnt from this experience, is the fact that life is so transient and that one must celebrate everyday of his life,” he said.
Also, the National Vice President, Igbo Youth Congress of Nigeria, Barrister Kasarachi Opara, in a condolence letter, said no one or experience would ever replace the wonderful moment and memories Pastor Dimgba Igwe gave to his family, The Sun, the media and the entire nation.
He stated: “We, the members of Igbo Youth Congress of Nigeria, wish to extend to the management and staff of The Sun Newspapers, our sincere and heartfelt condolence on the death of your Vice Chairman, Pastor Dimgba Igwe, a counselor, encourager, our great hero.
“The Igbo Youth Congress of Nigeria, indeed, shares in your sorrow and pains at this great loss. It is our prayers that the good Lord Jesus, who is our resurrection and life, may comfort you all. We also hope that our prayers will lessen the sorrows that you bear at this time.”
Meanwhile, a service of songs will be held in honour of Igwe tomorrow by 3p.m. at Evangel Pentecostal Church, 3/9, Chidi Okafor Street, Canal Estate, Okota,  Isolo in Lagos.
On October 10, there will also be service of songs at his residence in his hometown, Okafia, Igbere in  Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. On Saturday, October 11, there will be funeral service at Okafia,  Igbere Primary School and interment follows immediately at his residence.
