Appoints SSG, CPS, others
The people of Ekiti State yesterday trooped out in their thousands to honour their new Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who was sworn in at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti. The people left their homes and businesses to organize street parties all in a bid to express their love and support for Fayose. Celebrating the beginning of another era in the state, they came in groups and singles, into the stadium, while many danced in streets of the state capital, hours before the event kicked off.
Among the groups were the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Theatre Artists Union, Beer Sellers’ Association, Tailors’ Association, Food Vendors Club, Trade Unions, Artisans, Okada Riders Union, market men and women, motorists and civil servants, who sang and danced in rapturous ecstasy, hailing Fayose at every given opportunity.
Hours before Fayose arrived in a beautiful, light green Mercedes Benz W110 (1965 model), the overflowing crowd had been singing and dancing in a way that reflected their joy and satisfaction with their choice of a new governor.
Many of the songs threw jibes at the opposition and eulogized the Fayose and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The activities at the event included entertainment from cultural groups such as the local drummers, ballad singers, magiciansand masquerades with each group displaying its art with utmost dexterity.
Adding to the ecstasy that engulfed the atmosphere at the stadium, was the performance of the popular and youthful gospel singer, Mr. Yinka Ayefele, who dished out melodious songs of praise to God as the people joined him in singing and dancing profusely.
The celebration peaked with the announcement of Fayose’s entry into the stadium, which was greeted with deafening jubilation and applause from the crowd. A temporary commotion ensued as almost everyone in the crowd attempted to catch a glimpse of the new governor, who appeared elegantly in white ‘Danshiki’, inscribed with the logo and acronym of the PDP.
Stepping out gallantly from the car and waving to the crowd, the teeming crowd replied Fayose’s charismatic gesture with shouts of ‘Oshokomole, benefactor of the Ekiti people’, among others.
Rounding off his inagural speech, Fayose indulged Ekiti people, particularly those of humble background, by inviting them to the new State House, the Ayoba House, for a bounteous party featuring lots of refreshment and merry-making in celebration of his return to office:
“We will now leave here (the stadium) and go to that new Government House for a big party, you may sleep anywhere there today, the balcony, the corridors and other parts are there for everyone to relish, “ he said.
Meanwhile, shortly after he was sworn in Governor Fayose approved the appointment of principal government officials such as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, (CPS), Special Assistant to the Governor on Legal Matters and a Personal Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Stomach Infrastructure.
