Jonathan’s endorsement: Ex-lawmaker blasts Igbo leaders

The immediate past majority leader of Imo State House of Assembly, Dr. John Egbuchulam, yesterday insisted that Ndigbo had all it takes to produce the president of the country in 2015, stressing that the tribe should not be taken for granted ahead of the elections.
Egbuchulam, who is the chairman of the United Progressives Party (UPP), Imo State, was speaking at the inauguration of the party’s officials for Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, those who said they had endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan on behalf of Ndigbo did so out of selfish considerations, thereby reducing Igbo to mere onlookers and bystanders in the Nigerian project.
The former lawmaker described Ndigbo as the only progressive and patriotic people in Nigeria, who were seen in virtually all the cities across the country,
He stated that by population, the Igbo were greater in number than other tribes despite the census figures that favoured the North.
According to him, the UPP would field a presidential candidate of Igbo extraction, adding that any aspirant seeking to have the support of the Igbo must be ready to genuinely define the stake of the tribe if elected.
On Imo governorship election in 2015, the former majority leader boasted that UPP would give the people of the state a governor that would wipe away their tears.
