The governor gave this indication at the Government House, Ilorin, when he paid a courtesy visit on Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, as part of his consultations on his bid for the presidential ticket of the APC for the 2015 election.
He described APC members as practical people with extensive grassroots reach that would rejuvenate the national economy, tackle corruption and ensure national growth.
“Our economy can never be good in a situation of crisis; our economy can never be good in the face of corruption. Those who are trying to convince us that the economy is good don’t know what they are saying.
The economy is bad. That is the situation today. And that is what the APC wants to correct.
On the issue of consensus candidate for the APC presidential election, the governor said in line with its constitution, the party would explore the possibility of consensus candidate within the ambit of democratic culture.
The presidential hopeful commended the APC-controlled government for initiating various poverty alleviation and employment generation programmes, which he said had reduced youth unemployment and the attendant youth restiveness.
Ahmed, in his remarks said the choice of the APC presidential candidate for the forthcoming general elections would not only be devoid of acrimony but strengthen the fortunes of the party.
He lamented that Nigeria has had the misfortune of bad leadership, despite the abundance of human and natural resources endowment, assuring optimism that an APC government at the federal level would through strategic planning evolve quality leadership that Nigeria deserves.
“The APC is the fastest growing party in Nigeria and the only truly national political party which came into being as a result of congruence of ideas on how to ensure that Nigeria moves again along the side of improving and growing nations”.
