The meeting, which ended at midnight, according to Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina, who spoke to State House correspondents, evaluated strategies for a successful conduct of the party’s primaries.
On his part, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia said: “We discussed our party and the primaries that will soon come.
“We looked at how to fortify our party to avoid rancour or in-fighting to enable us perform well both in the primaries and the general elections in 2015.’’
Orji stated that the reported clash between PDP governors and the party’s national leadership over endorsement of candidates at the state chapters did not come up for discussion. He said the party’s governorship candidates would emerge through free and transparent primaries, contrary to reports of endorsements in the media.
The Deputy Governor of Kogi, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, described the meeting as cordial and fruitful.
“Mr.President called the PDP governors and we all had a good meeting, which was all about repositioning the party to serve the citizens well. It was a cordial meeting and the resolutions reached would be made public by the appropriate quarters,” he said.
Also, Bala Ngilari of Adamawa State described the political atmosphere in the state as stable, saying the people were happy with the delivery of justice in his case.
“The political situation in Adamawa is stable, I can assure you. The people are happy.
“You know, the common man appreciates when justice is done at all times. They are happy; you can do your independent verification.
“The reported noise in some quarters that heavens would fall because of my swearing in, nothing like that has happened. I thank the people of Adamawa for their massive support and we promise to keep faith with them,” Ngilari said.
The governor emphasised that the executive and legislative arms of the state government were not at loggerheads as reported, adding that the working relationship among the three arms was cordial.
Ngilari was sworn in as governor on October 8, 2014 following an order of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which voided his purported resignation.
Governors who attended the meeting include Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Bala Ngilari (Adamawa), Isa Yuguda (Bauchi), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Martin Elechi (Ebonyi).
Others were Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Saidu Dakingari (Kebbi), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina), Umar Garba (Acting Governor of Taraba),
Theodore Orji (Abia), Babangida Aliyu (Niger) and the deputy governors of Sokoto and Nasarawa states.
