Uduaghan, Adesina, others chart new course for women at The Sun Summit

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State yesterday in Asaba urged women to jointly harness their potential in their various fields of endeavour to be winners in a world of men.
The governor, who declared the maiden edition of The Sun Woman Leadership Summit open, said: “Women must come together to win in a man’s world. They should refuse to be used to pull down or limit their fellow women in whatever fields of endeavour.”
Uduaghan noted that women could attain any position if they were united, pointing out that most often they did not get the positions they aspired to because their fellow women were used to thwart their efforts.
“The women must agree to work together, they will win in elections by refusing to be manipulated by men to be used against their fellow women,” Uduaghan stated, adding, “The men can manoeuvre their ways in politics but it is difficult for women to do so.”
He said many women from Delta State were recording great successes in different fields of life, observing that the former Managing Director of Bank of Industry (BoI), Evelyn Oputu, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonko-Iweala, Blessing Okagbare, among others were making the state and the country proud in their chosen fields.
Meanwhile, the Managing Director of The Sun Publishing Limited, Mr. Femi Adesina, has explained that the summit is an important forum to give women the opportunity to discuss the way forward. He commended the Delta State Government for hosting the maiden edition of the event.
Chairperson on the occasion and Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mulikat Akande-Adeola, expressed hope that the summit would provide women the opportunity to be involved in the decision-making process of the country.
In a thought-provoking keynote address, former Chairman of BoI, Mrs. Evelyn Oputu, stated that for the country to become a developed nation, the potential of women should be unlocked, stressing that women had the same traits with men.
