Nasarawa Impeachment: Tension in Lafia as self-exiled PDP lawmakers storm return

(LAFIA)
Palpable tension has gripped Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, after the Peoples Democratic Party’s lawmakers in the  state House of Assembly, who fled the state weeks ago, returned in a long vehicles of cars led by siren blaring outriders.
The legislators, who fled the state in the thick of the failed impeachment move against Governor Tanko Al-Makura, arrived from their self-imposed exile two weeks after the Assembly was scheduled to resume [August 4] after a short break.
The lawmakers moved to Abuja following a gale of protests across the state after the commencement of impeachment proceeding against the governor.
But they arrived in style on Monday, driving into the Assembly complex around 9.30 a.m   in a convoy of over 17 vehicles. They were escorted by security operatives.
Few minutes before their arrival, 17 Hilux vans, packed with armed security operatives, had descended on the Assembly complex.
A police  Armoured Personnel Carrier was also stationed in the premises.
The lawmakers, upon arrival, were welcomed and cheered by hundreds of  supporters at the state secretariat  of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) along Jos road.
At the time of filling this report, the lawmakers were still holding executive session and are expected to hold plenary afterwards.
The lawmaker’s next move against Governor Al-Makura is unclear. But there have been reports that the PDP legislators were bent on removing the governor from office even after the investigative panel that probed allegations of gross misconduct against him cleared him.
Mr. Al-Makura’s party, the All Progressives Congress [APC] had on Sunday condemned the renewed plan by the Assembly to impeach the governor, saying the state lawmakers were bent on thumbing their nose at the Constitution in their desperation to remove  Mr. Al-Makura.
