Reports say more than 100 demobilized militia fighters and their relatives have died from starvation and disease in an army camp in the democratic republic of Congo.

They were moved to the isolated camp in northwestern Dr Congo last year after surrendering in the volatile east.

Human rights watch (HRW) said they received minimal food and health supplies, some apparently surviving on crops stolen from farmers' fields.

The military says it is investigating.

Defence minister Alexandre lube Ntambo told HRW there had been significant delays and problems with financing the government's demobilization programme http://aitonline.tv/post-100_demobilized_militia_fighters_died_from_starvation_and_disease_in_an_army_camp#sthash.oEP03Ewu.xv3nTTB8.dpuf
