Former NFF president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari and the Secretary General
of the NFF, Musa Amadu yesterday escaped being remanded in prison
custody, as the trial judge of a Federal High Court, sitting in Jos,
adjourned hearing on the contempt proceeding filed against the eggheads
of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to October 23, 2014.
The Ambassador Chris Giwa-led faction had dragged the immediate past
president of the football federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari and three
others to court for flouting the orders of the court, stopping the
conduct of the election in Warri, Delta State.Yahaya Adamu, a football stakeholder and three others on September 19 obtained an interim injunction retraining Maigari and the State FA chairmen from organising an extraordinary congress and conducting an election to replace the Giwa-led executive committee.
The plaintiffs through their counsel at the hearing yesterday in Jos, sought for an order of court to jail Magari for flouting that order. The judge, Justice Ambrose Allagoa, however, adjourned further hearing to allow the plaintiffs’ counsel to personally serve the defendants with the contempt of court order.
Allagoa in adjourning the matter said the court could not grant the prayer of the plaintiffs’ counsel to commit the defendants to prison in their absence, adding that the court had no proof that they were personally served with the court processes, as was contained in the order.
