Sokoto INEC educates electorate on 2015 election timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State said it has made available the time-table for the 2015 general elections at the headquarters of each of the 23 local governments across the state.
The commission also warned the politicians in the area to abide by the rules and regulations that guide the electoral process, saying that free and fair election is a collective responsibility of all Nigerians. This is contained in a statement signed yesterday by Muhammad Musa, Head of Voter Education and Publicity and made available to Daily Sun. The Commission said that the action was in accordance with the provisions of section 30, sub-sections 1 and 2 of the Electoral Act 2015, as amended.
The statement said the same notice has already been pasted on the notice board at its state headquarters for public viewing as required by the law, stating that the law required that the notice of the 2015 general elections be published not later than 90 days before the stipulated day for holding of the elections.
It stated that the presidential and National Assembly elections would be conducted on February14, 2015 while the gubernatorial and state assembly elections would  be conducted on February 28, 2015 in the state as announced by the National Headquarters, Abuja. “And take note that the place of delivery of nomination papers for the elective officers shall be the commission’s headquarters, Maitama, Abuja.”
INEC office in Sokoto wishes to use this opportunity to call on politicians to abide by the rules and regulations that regulate the electoral process as contained in the constitution of Nigeria and the Electoral Act 2010 ( as amended),” the commission said.
It further noted that free and fair election remain the collective responsibility of all Nigerians. “As such, each and every stakeholder must contribute his or her own quota in order to achieve the desired objective,” the commission added.
