The Sun Women Leadership Summit is timely –Farida Waziri

Former Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs. Farida Waziri, has commended The Sun Publishing Limited for it ongoing Women Leadership Summit in Asaba, Delta State.
Speaking at the event, she said: “It is timely that such an event for women is taking place now because many things are evolving. There is globalisation and the Beijing Declaration, which includes 35 per cent of women in leadership positions, is being actualised. This summit has created an avenue for networking, sharing ideas and proffering solutions that will shoot women to the top of leadership positions.’’
Waziri stated that her faith in Nigerian women gave her the strength to attend the programme, because they are strong and hardworking. She advised women to know themselves, know what they want and go for it, without feeling scared or intimidated. She added that they should not lose their womanhood in the light of pursuing their dreams. She stressed that dignity and self-respect remained key to a lasting successful life.
“Nigerian women need to be confident and work extremely hard, more than the man. Don’t sit down and say women want affirmative action; you have to prove yourself as a woman. When you display your worth and value to the men folk, they will respect you. When you are given a task, give it your best; so that when you look at what you have achieved, you will be proud of yourself. You have to leave a lasting legacy for the young ones so that they can learn and emulate your right principles,’’ she said.
Waziri urged that the summit has to be continuous to make the desired impact and create the much-needed change for women in leadership positions in Nigeria. She reasoned that a sustained annual event would create avenue for feedback and the benefits from the discussions, adding that it would create a platform for mentorship for women.
