Uncertainties hang over NFF, Nigeria football

Another round of drama may unfold today in the ever controversy riddled Nigeria Football Federation. Newly elected board members are supposed to officially meet today to mar- shal out immediate and long term plans for Nigeria football.
Yet, it is feared that security personnel may besiege the head- quarters of the NFF on a possible orders of the Jos High Court, which had given injunction, for- bidding the carrying out of last week’s elective congress of the football body.
Two conflicting directives may be on collision course. On one hand, the world football govern- ing body, FIFA, authorised last week Tuesday’s event. On the other hand, Chris Giwa and those in his camp got a Jos High Court order forbidding the last two con- gresses of the NFF.
A contempt of court charge is therefore feared hanging on the heads of the 36 state FA chair- men, the new board of the NFF and also, the minister of sports/ NSC chairman.
With the new board led by Pin- nick Amaju due to assume office today and hold its first executive committee meeting, it is still un- clear what will become of the court contempt charges since no one had admitted being served the order stalling the election.
Fears of possible arrest of the football lords filled the air, even as the NFF is expected to come up with plans that will see the national team perform well in Saturday’s crucial Africa Nations Cup qualifying match in Sudan.
Should there be any con- frontation or impediment to the function of the new NFF board,
FIFA would act truly to its let- ter, threatening against any in- terference and would take action to suspend Nigeria indefinitely without referring the matter to any committee until its General Assembly in March, 2015.
The implication is that Nigeria will be out of all international matches and championships. The Super Eagles would be out of contention for a place in the race
to Morocco 2015, thus giving an easy passage for Congo Brazza- ville and South Africa to pick the two tickets available from Group A.
The Super Falcons on the other hand would also not participate in the African Women Champion- ship billed to start in Namibia this weekend, even as they are due to depart Nigeria tomorrow.
