APC leader shot dead

APC

FROM CHRIS ANUCHA, PORT HARCOURT

The interim  Chairman of  All Progressives Congress(APC)for  Ward  9 in Umuogerem  Obibi, Etche in Etche Local Government  Area of Rivers State, Mr. Chimezie  Anucha, has  been assassinated.  He was   shot  dead   at  Achara  Obibi,  between  7 and 8 am  on   Sunday, April 6.

A source  disclosed   how   the victim  who was living in Port Harcourt,  was phoned  earlier in the day, and  the caller  requested  that  he  should  come to  Achara  for  a business  deal.

The victim,  who was  also Chairman  of  Community Development Committee(CDC),   was  driving     to  his village,  in  his Lexus  Sport Utility Vehicle(SUV),   before  he  had  a  flat  tyre  close  to  Achara, where  the purported  business  transaction was   to take place.

But  as  he  was  trying  to replace it, the assassins  stormed  the scene,  after they   purportedly received information   that  their target was  already  in town.

Our  source  disclosed    that   when the  killers  got  there,   they   tried to take him away, but the victim allegedly resisted them. This was  said  to have  angered the killer-squad,  prompting  them  to  shoot him severally  in the neck. He was said  to have  died  on  the spot.

There is  tension  in   the entire   Obibi   following  the  murder as many   people  are alleging  that   his killing was  politically- motivated.

People said members of the opposition party in the area had been uncomfortable since  Anucha  emerged  CDC Chairman. They were said  to  be  complaining  bitterly that the position(CDC Chairman) gave  him much powers, which  he could  use against the interest  of  their party.

“We  are   afraid  now. Nobody knows the next  target. This is political. Some people are even leaving the area now ,” a young man, who wouldn’t want his name in  print, told Daily Sun.

A source also  disclosed that before his killing,  Anucha had alleged that some members of the opposition party in the area   were  threatening  to kill him. The  victim, who  was in his early 40s,  left behind a wife, three children and an aged mother.
