Gunmen kill 2, burn police outpost

• As villagers declare police officers missing in Zamfara

Gunmen suspected to be cattle rustlers  stormed the village of Faru, in Maradun Local Government Area on friday night,killed two people and set a police post ablaze. The gunmen, who were alleged to be more than 100 in number, were said to have surrounded the village and  shot sporadically.

A source at the affected village told Daily Sun that after the shooting, all the policemen on duty ran for their lives and the police post was set on fire. According to the source,the policemen who ran away were declared missing by the villagers.

“Since the time of the incident, we have not set our eyes on police officers that are living with us. We learnt that they have run away to save their  lives. We, the villagers are yet to know their where about” he said.     It was gathered that the two people that were killed died as a result of suffocation after the burning of the police post.

When contacted over the incident, the Zamfara State Police Command Public Relation Officer (PPRO) DSP  Lawal Abdullahi, confirmed the incident and said security operatives had been deployed in the area.

He disclosed that normalcy had returned to the town, adding that police would not relent in their effort to ensure safety of lives and property of every citizen.
