Benue Police apprehend 2 robbers in Daudu

Benue Police apprehend 2 robbers in Daudu

There was pandemonium around Daudu area of Guma Local Government Area  of Benue State yesterday when suspected armed robbers, who were on their way from Lafia trying to make their way into Makurdi, were intercepted by the police.

Eye witnesses, especially drivers who were bringing newspapers to Benue from Abuja said the ensuing chaos caused a serious traffic gridlock on the Makurdi-Lafia Road even as commuters on that road had to wait for some hours before they could move.

One of the drivers conveying daily newspapers to Makurdi said initially, he thought the Fulani herdsmen were at it again when he saw the way people were running helter skelter while sounds of bullets resonated through the air in Daudu town.

Recall that Daudu town is one of the communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State that were ravaged by Fulani insurgents and is just trying to bounce back to life when this incident happened.

However, when contacted, the Police spokesman in the state, SP Daniel Ezeala, who debunked insinuations that the area was under fresh Fulani attack said five dare devil armed robbers in a Golf car were heading towards Makurdi from Lafia when some policemen on stop-and-search stopped them. He disclosed further that as soon as they were stopped by the police, the robbers jumped out of the car and ran into the bush, thus causing commotion in the area while the police swiftly apprehended two of them and recovered three AK47 rifles from them.

Ezeala revealed further that the two suspected robbers that were apprehended were already in police net while the police were still on the trail of the other fleeing members of the gang.

He urged people of the area to go about their lawful businesses without fear as the police were working to ensure safety of lives and property in the state.
