Fresh Boko Haram attacks claim 28 lives in Borno

Boko Haram appeared to be on rampage as the insurgents keep
unleashing violence on innocent villagers, the recent being the killing
of at least 28 people in separate attacks.
In Marte Local Government, north of Borno State where the sect once
had a camp before it was dislodged by the military, no fewer than 20
people were killed when the insurgents who were said to be fully armed
invaded Kerenuwa.
There were conflicting accounts about the time of the attack but
sources said the insurgents came to Kerenuwa on Thursday afternoon in
large numbers, opened fire on residents and subsequently set houses
ablaze.
“They raided the town and proceeded to the major market and begun
sporadic shootings into the direction of crowd, killing 20 people and
burnt most houses and shops in the town,” a source said.
A resident claimed there was no immediate response from the military
troops around the area to repel the attack but a security source hinted
that lack of communication in the area prevented the troops from
receiving any alert about the attack, adding that residents in the area
rely mostly on GSM services from neighbouring Niger Republic.
Also at Kimba in Biu Local Government, south of Borno, the insurgents
raided the community, killing at least three people. Biu also shares
border with Chibok, where over 200 schoolgirls were abducted by the
insurgents on April 14.
No fewer than five people were also killed in another attack on a
remote community near Chibok, bringing the total casualty to 28, sources
said though there was no official confirmation from either the police
or military in the state at press time.
Boko Haram has intensified attacks on communities in the rural areas
in recent time as no fewer than 98 villagers have been killed in
separate attacks by the insurgents in a week.
