Ebonyi Assembly crisis: Majority leader’s kinsmen demand for recall

Stakeholders from Ikwo North constituency in Ebonyi State, comprising of various clans, at the weekend ,staged a peaceful protest in Abakaliki, the state capital, demanding the recall of their representative, who doubles as the Assembly majority leader, Honourable Samuel Nwali.

The group made up of opinion leaders, politicians, youths and women groups across ages, thronged the popular Fatilami Park in their hundreds, chanting songs of disenchantment.

The leader of the group, Apostle Emmanuel Mbam, said that members of the constituency had passed vote of no confidence on the lawmaker, citing alleged poor representation and non-performance as reasons for their decision.

According to him, “we will commence the process of recall of our representative in the state House of Assembly,” he said.

He maintained that the constituents were perturbed over the attitude of the lawmaker, and his perceived disposition towards the state governor, Chief Martin Elechi ,among other issues.

“He does not deserve to serve us any longer, because of his role in the current impeachment saga currently rocking the leadership of the House of Assembly,” he reiterated.

Also speaking in the same vein, another member of the group, Mr Celestine Anigor, denied media reports that the lawmaker was kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

He reiterated “at no point was he kidnapped, he was invited by the stakeholders of his constituency for normal consultation.”

Efforts to contact the majority leader for his reaction proved abortive, as the aide who picked his call, said he was receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
