Mimiko, his wife, Olukemi, female political office holders, spouses of political office holders, among other top government officials, were at the Basic Health Centre, Ilu-Agbo, which serves as the relief camp for the victims, for the presentation of the items.
The materials donated included food items, clothing materials, beddings, toiletries, cooking utensils, among others.
Governor Mimiko, while addressing the victims, thanked God that no life was lost to the disaster, stressing that the state government had taken a quick decision to alleviate the suffering of the people.
The governor, who appreciated his wife for being in the vanguard of the gesture, assured that his administration would continue to take decisions that would protect the lives and property of the entire state.
Mimiko also lauded the efforts of the state’s Quick Response Committee, headed by the Commissioner for Environment, Chief Sola Ebiseni, in meeting the needs of the victims.
In her speech, the wife of the governor, Mrs. Olukemi Mimiko, appealed to the people to always take good care of their environment and avoid blocking water channels around them.
Governor Mimiko, who had earlier paid a visit to the Olu of Igbobini, Oba Raphael Oyedele, in his palace, commiserated with the monarch and the people of the area and assured of government’s support for the victims.
Responding, Oba Oyedele thanked the governor for the quick intervention of the state government, noting that he was amazed at the quick response unlike before when it would take about 24 hours or more before government’s intervene in disaster matters.
