Nyako’s impeachment justified –Ex-minister

A former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Aliyu Hong, has described the investigation and the subsequent impeachment of the former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, as eloquent revelation of the quantum of destruction and injustice allegedly done to the commonwealth of the state.
Hong, who was also a Minister of State for Health, maintained that the impeachment was a confirmation of the outcry of the citizens of the state, who had been begging for socio-economic transformation.
The Adamawa Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart told Daily Sun that the impeachment of Nyako was long overdue.
He said Nyako’s removal from office would serve as a deterrent to impunity, insanity in the political system, disrespect to the rule of law and a signal to public office holders and politicians that every arm of government was important in the institution of democracy in Nigeria.
His words: “The impeachment of Nyako is a welcome development and  a practical demonstration of the doctrine of separation of powers; that governance is an institution and every arm of government must have to check the excesses of the other arm to make democracy work for us in the country.
“In running a government as an institution, there are modalities. If you go outside the constituted laws, you must be in for it because there are other arms of government that are mandated to ensure checks and balances in the system.”
