Shun acts capable of dividing Nigeria, Emir tasks leaders

Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of Kwara State Traditional Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has urged Muslim faithful to work towards the return of peace to the country and shun acts capable of dividing the citizenry.
The monarch, who spoke shortly after the two Rakats prayer, led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Soliu, to mark this year’s Sallah celebration, called for sober reflection among believers, stressing that there was strength in unity.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari urged that the festive period should not be limited to rejoicing with family members.
“The occasion should be used to reflect on the ways the country can overcome its challenges. Let us love one another, let us demonstrate high level of charity to the needy, most especially orphans and widows, among others. There is strength in unity, there is peace in love and there is growth in patriotism.
“Kwara State, especially Ilorin Emirate, is strategic to the nation. From the outset, we are known for peaceful co-existence and harmonious working relationship. This unique qualities had in addition adjudged us as the most peaceful place in the nation,” he said.
He, however, commended security operatives for ensuring peace in the state and urged residents to support the agencies in their efforts to curb the insecurity bedevilling the nation.
Earlier, the chief imam in his sermon, enjoined Muslims to sustain the righteous deeds that occupied their lifestyles during the month of Ramadan.
