Adamawa re-run election: De-emphasise ethnicity, religion, politicians told

Ahead of the election to get a replacement for impeached Governor Murtala Nyako, a non-political association, Adamawa Strategic Alliance (ASA), has appealed to political parties to de-emphasise ethnicity and religion in the choice of their candidates for the poll.
The group made the call in a communique it issued after its meeting at Lelewal Hotels in Yola and read  by Professor Alikidon Voh.
The association also endorsed zoning of political offices as a necessary tool in ensuring fairness in  political parties in the state, saying it would give the people a sense of belonging  in the affairs of the parties.
Pledging to support any candidate with good character and with a development-oriented agenda in  the next governorship election, ASA however, disclosed  that one of its members, Senator Abubakar Girei, had declared his interest in the poll, urging other aspirants with good blueprints on how to develop the state to make them known to the association.
The group, Voh said was interested in promoting good governance in the state, hence it associated itself with the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako by Adamawa State House of Assembly. The development, ASA said, would strengthen democracy and organs of government through the institution of checks and balances in the system.
The  communique described the action of the lawmakers as an act of patriotism towards saving the state from impunity in governance as allegedly perpetrated by the Nyako-led administration in Adamawa State, appealing to the lawmakers to sustain the courage by ensuring good governance in the state.
