Kalu lifts UNN, students

Donates computer sets, promises cash rewards
Former governor of Abia State and Founder of SLOK Group, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has made good his promise to students of the Department of Economics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), this year by donating computer sets to the institution.
This is even as the business mogul promised to give the best graduating student of the university N500, 000 while the best students in both the School of Social Sciences and Economics would receive N250, 000 each. Kalu had on March 11, 2014 while delivering a lecture at the department promised to donate computer sets to the students to enhance teaching and learning.
He fulfilled the promise yesterday when he donated 20 desk tops and 10 laptops to the joy of the Vice Chancellor, lecturers and students of the Department of Economics.
Presenting the computer sets, Kalu said the items were products of his company, SLOK Technology which he explained had 100 per cent local content. He said the items were the first to be produced by his company, stressing that in less than six weeks, Nigerian markets would be flooded with SLOK Technology computer products.
“What I have just given you today (yesterday) were from SLOK Technology. They are the first we have produced, they have 100 per cent local content. In less than six weeks, our computer sets will flood the Nigerian market and people will know the difference”, Kalu promised.
He advocated for a partnership between SLOK Technology and UNN which he said would enable every student own the company’s computer set at a reduced price.
The former governor also promised a yearly reward for three categories of best graduating students which he said would run throughout his life. According to Kalu, the best overall graduating student of UNN would receive N500, 000 starting from next academic session while the best graduating students in the School of Social Sciences and the Department of Economics would get N250,  000 each.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Benjamin Ozurumba, who had earlier received Kalu in his office, said the former governor besides his political exploits, had given voice to the voiceless in the country by the establishment of The Sun and New Telegraph newspapers, two media outfits he said were doing very well. “We need not emphasise much on the political exploits of the former Abia State governor, who had gone a step further by giving voice to the voiceless in Nigeria through the establishment of The Sun and New Telegraph newspapers,  two media outfits that are doing well in the country toady.”
Prof Ozurumba expressed delight over the donation, saying he was unlike most politicians who make promises but find it difficult to fulfil them. The students, as a way of expressing their joy, danced round their department as they sang Kalu’s praises.
