PDP berates Fayemi over non-payment of workers’ salary

Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried the alleged non-payment of the July salary of local government workers and teachers by the state government, saying it is wicked to deny workers their wages.
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti yesterday by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, the party noted that the action of the Kayode Fayemi-led administration had vindicated its stance that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration lacked human feelings.
He also said the delay in the payment of the workers’ salaries was a deliberate action aimed at punishing the workers for not voting for Fayemi in the June 21 governorship election.
“Our candidate, His Excellency, Dr. Ayo Fayose, defeated Fayemi in the election by winning in all the 16 local government areas and all segments of the society, even civil servants rejected Fayemi and the APC at the poll.
“Fayemi has decided to punish those he perceived did not vote for him in the election, among whom were local government workers and teachers.
“Fayemi should let the people of the state know what is delaying the payment of the salaries of these people.
“He had money to pay his political appointees and even sent money to his illegally-created local council development areas. Fayemi should pay these workers without further delay,” he said.
Oluwawole stressed that it was obvious that Fayemi was on a vengeance mission by his silence on the unpaid workers’ salaries since July, saying the outgoing governor did not only keep the workers in abeyance, but was said to have boasted that he would “show them pepper” before leaving in October.
“This governor should explain to Ekiti people what he is doing with the allocations that have come to Ekiti State from the Federal Government since June for them to know why the payment of workers salaries has become a taboo to the government that claims to be people-friendly,” he stated. He, however, enjoined the state public servants not to lose hope, but rather keep hope alive in a better government that would soon erase their sufferings.
