The veteran journalist, accompanied by the Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, Gbenga Adefaye and others, lamented what he described as a tragic end of a brilliant journalist.
He urged the acting Inspector-General of Police, Sulaiman Abba, who on Monday promised to get Igwe’s killer not to see the promise as just one of those unfulfilled promises by the police in the country.
Speaking through Adefaye, the immediate past president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, (NGE) Amuka said: “We are here this time around, not on a happy moment, but to mourn and commiserate with the board, management and staff of The Sun Newspapers over the death of Dimgba Igwe.
“It was a tragic death. While many editors were scare of Kastina because of the insecurity in the country, Dimgba was there during the last national conference of the NGE.
“He returned home hale and hearty but few days after, while jogging and keeping fit to stay alive, he was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver and died thereafter.”
Amuka charged the Nigeria Police Force to keep to their promise of finding the driver of the vehicle that killed Igwe.
The Vanguard team expressed willingness to take active part in the funeral arrangements of the late prolific writer who died at the age of 58 last Saturday.
Adesina, while responding, thanked the Vanguard team and disclosed that arrangements were already in top gear to give Igwe a befitting burial.
“The three major stakeholders in the funeral arrangements, the Igwe family, his church, (you know, he was the Deputy General Overseer of Evangel Pentecostal Church, Okota) and The Sun are already meeting over the burial plans,” Adesina disclosed.
Other management members of The Sun who received the Vanguard team were Mr. Bolaji Tunji, Executive Director, Special Duties, Neta Nwosu, General Manager, Corporates Services, Funke Egbemode, Kunle Solaja, General Editors as well as Mrs. Ogechi Uche, General Manager, Human Resources
