“Those insinuating that there is need to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because it is a federal party are not thinking right. What NPP did during Mbakwe and Jim Nwobodo is what APGA is doing in Anambra State today. They didn’t defect to the NPN yet they did a wonderful job.
“There was NCNC when Dr. M.I Opkara, and Dr Akanu Ibiam transformed the South East, yet they didn’t defect to the NPC. Some of us are so shallow in our reasoning and we cannot be trusted in politics because of saboteurs, betrayal syndrome and our inability to have a united party of ours.
“We will not be talking about APGA being a national party for presidency but we shall focus on APGA merging with other parties for the presidential ticket when the time comes.
“That is what the great Nnamdi Azikiwe, the godfather of Nigeria politics taught us. Why can’t we think of an APGA merger instead of defecting to other parties?,” the Ogirisi Igbo said in a statement.
He said APGA remained the face of integrity and pride of the Igbo man and no one could take that away. “The spirit upon which Zik moved the Igbo under NCNC/NPC and NPP/NPN accords and the merging benefit derived thereupon is what is expected to happen towards Ojukwu’s APGA/PDP relationship.
“Our party shall discuss at a roundtable with other parties and merge with an accord for the good of the nation. We won’t defect to other parties. APGA is our identity as a people.”
He added: “Our party and our people will vote President Goodluck Jonathan for President, but all other positions we will contest it in 2015.”
