The 30-year-old reigning world champion crossed the line in 51.40s to edge out American duo, Joanna Atkins [51.53s] and Jessica Beard [51.63s]. Her compatriot, Kelly Massey, ran a new personal best of 51.96s in finishing fifth.
Although the time was short of her personal best, Ohuruogu expressed surprise at her performance.
“I wasn’t expecting that,” Ohuruogu told reporters afterwards. “I was running down the home straight and saw that I was winning. “It’s good for the crowd to see that. The time wasn’t all that great but it doesn’t really matter.”
Ohuruogo will defend her world title a year from now in Beijing, China.
Favourite Kirani James won the men’s 400m event in 44.59s to beat Isaac Makwala (45.02s) of Botswana and Great Britain’s Martyn Rooney (45.25s). to the second and third positions respectively.
