BOKO HARAM ATTACKS WILL CONTINUE — APC CHIEFTAIN.

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Engr Rotimi Fashakin has identified deep-rooted corruption as the reason attacks by members of Boko Haram sect will continue in the North. President Goodluck Jonathan had promised recently that activities of Boko Haram sect would come to an end by the middle of October 2014.
Fashakin who is also the spokesman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in an exclusive interview with Nigerian NewsDirect noted that the attacks by Boko Haram would continue because many people are making money from the deadly activities. “ These are the people that want the war to continue, what has the government done with huge budgetary allocation to defence since 2008 when this government came to power,” Fashakin alleged.
In 2013, a total sum of N1.055 trillion was earmarked to fight insecurity while 20% of the 2014 budget which represents N968.127billion will be spent on relevant authorities, including the army, navy, air force, police, and civil defence.
The President had also on July 16 sought the consent of the National Assembly to secure $1 bililon loan to enable the Federal Government upgrade military equipment in its renewed fight against Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
Senate President, David Mark had pledged to consider the request by President Goodluck Jonathan for the loan.
“The request from Mr. President for $1 billion loan will be laid on the order paper for consideration by the senate.”
Mark said after the Senate resumed from a five- week recess last week.
Mark also stressed that the N79billion requested by Jonathan in June to fund Police reforms would also be considered by the legislature.
“What have they been doing with all this money?”
Fashakin asked. “They have not only politicized Boko Haram but have turned it to money-making venture” he added.
“When did Boko Haram turn overnight from sect that specializes in suicide attack to sophisticated arms carrier capable of taking over several towns in Nigeria while our well funded Nigerian Army cannot match them, we need to think and ask questions in this country” Fashakin added.
On his part, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky said it had become obvious that the military created the faceless and anonymous sect called Boko Haram which nobody
in the country has seen or can identify a member, nor their schools, mosques or newspapers.
“All we hear of them are bomb blasts and videos issuing threat of attacks, promoted by the government as the only source of information”.
The cleric stated this when he received the chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Chidi Anslem Odinkalu who was in Zaria to condole and sympathize with him over the loss of his sons.
“It may interest you to know the towns that are being controlled conveniently by the Boko Haram. Where their flags are flying in Borno, Yobe States and parts of Adamawa State that make up the Catholic
Diocese of Maiduguri. Apart from Sambisa which is their main camp and many more camps which are yet to be touched by the Nigerian troops.
Efforts to get the reaction of PDP’s spokesman, Olisa Metuh proved abortive as he did not pick his call or respond to text messages sent to his phone.
However, Professor Ango Abdullahi, a spokesman of the Arewa Citizens Action for Change (ACAC), a group of northern elders however said the President was trying his best to quell the insurgency.
The former Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University said, ‘The Federal Government is tackling the Boko Haram issue very well. The government is doing its best and there is improvement. I believe everything will be alright very, very soon” the Septuagenarian told Nigerian NewsDirect .
