The Peoples Democratic Party, North West, has endorsed President Goodluck for a re-election in 2015, praising Mr. Jonathan for overseeing what the party called “steady and stable progress” of Nigeria.

Mr. Jonathan was given the backing at the party’s zonal meeting in Kaduna Sunday, attended by Vice President Namadi Sambo, the PDP national chairman, Adamu Muazu, the governor of Kebbi State, Sa’idu Dakingari and Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State.

The deputy governors of Sokoto, Jigawa and Katsina states, PDP senators from the zone, and PDP members of House of Representatives from the Zone, were also in attendance.

Governors Ibrahim Shema of Katsina, Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, and the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, was absent at the meeting.

Mr. Dakingari, who spoke on behalf of PDP governors in the North West zone, promised to deliver all the States in the region to PDP. Mr. Dakingari described the Northwest as the “most politically sophisticated” region in the country and the largest in terms of voting population “with about 28% of the total votes in the country”.

“Having carefully considered the steady and stable progress of our nation under the able leadership of Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the North-West zone having in mind the monumental strides attained by this administration, have resolved to urge Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to declare for President in the forthcoming 2015 elections so as to continue the good works he started in nation building,” said a communique at the end of the meeting, read by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali.

The party hailed Mr. Jonathan for the “giant strides” of his administration in agriculture, healthcare, aviation, transportation, education and employment creation.

“We ask for nothing less. Consequently, we respectfully call on the National Chairman of our party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to convey this resolution and unanimous declaration of the entire leadership and membership of the PDP in the North-West zone to His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to render himself for continued service to the nation,” the statement added.

Vice President Sambo urged aggrieved members of the party who defected from the party to return to its fold.
“There is a popular adage which has it that even the teeth and the tongue do sometimes disagree. It should be acknowledged that there is no alternative to the People’s Democratic Party. As the largest party in Africa, it is good enough to accommodate all and sundry,” Mr. Sambo said.

He said the PDP thrives in the “promotion of democracy” and that the meeting was aimed at strategizing ahead.
“This zone, which is the largest in terms of number of states, has placed on our shoulder the challenge of holding regular meetings and consultations so as to remain ahead of others at all times,” he said.

The PDP North-West Chairman, Ibrahim Kazaure, said the meeting was convened to discuss matters germane to strengthening the party towards positioning it for greater successes.

In his remarks, the PDP national chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, expressed delight with the strong interest the members exhibited for the party and assured them that PDP was the party to beat as it has withstood the tides of all times.
He promised to convey the outcome of their meeting to the president.
