Rio 2016: NSC begins preparation with Commodore’s race

The Navy Sailing Club (NSC), located inside the Navy Town, Ojo will on Saturday, September 27, 2014 be a beehive of activities, as it hosts the Commodore’s race in an event that promises to be full of fun and action.
According to the Club’s Commodore, Citizen Giwa Daramola, the race, which will be two legged will see a boat race, kayak event, swimming, as well as a lagoon cruise.
The event, which will be in conjunction with the Nigeria Rowing and Canoeing Federation under the leadership of Rear Admiral Festus Porbeni (rtd) will have national athlete,s as well as other water sports athletes competing for honours, as there will be no less than 10 GP 14 boats and 10 kayak boats on display.
Aside from this, the boat cruise that involves both athletes and members of the public will take off from the Navy Sailing Club and head off to the Ibeche beach and back, a distance of about 24 nautical miles.
“The Commodore’s race is one that athletes, members and spectators will enjoy because it will entertaining, spectacular and challenging. We’ve put all security and safety measures in place to prevent any mishap and can also assure all that this is only just the beginning of more things to come in the club, as the new executive was determined to make water sports attractive, given the numerous medal potentials it provides Nigeria.”
Special guest of honour for the race is the Vice President of the Nigeria Rowing and Canoeing Federation, Commodore Isaac Manklik. Also expected is the Chief Staff Officer, Western Naval Command, Commodore Etim Etifit. The Commodore’s race makes the beginning of activities of the newly elected executives of the Navy Sailing Club, Ojo, which emerged at the end of its AGM held at the Rock View Hotel, Festac Town, Lagos.
