Planned defection: Ondo traditional rulers back Mimiko

The planned defection of Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received a boost following the endorsement of the move by prominent traditional rulers in the state.
In response to a reported  invitation from the PDP for the Ondo State governor to join it from its present Labour Party (LP) platform, Mimiko commenced a series of consultations with stakeholders in the state regarding the PDP’s overture.
At one of such consultations with some prominent traditional rulers in the state at the weekend, Governor Mimiko sought advices, even as they took turns to eulogise his person and character and declared their support for him to accede to the request.
The monarchs expressed their satisfaction with the leadership style of the governor as well as his ability to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
Sources privy to the meeting disclosed that the traditional rulers commended the governor for deeming it fit to carry them along regarding the overture despite the fact that they were not politicians.
The  Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom, Oba Lawrence Omowale, who spoke on behalf of the traditional rulers was said to have particularly given credit to the governor for his political strides and his ability to take the state to the mainstream of national politics.
Declaring the traditional ruler’s belief in the political judgment of Dr Mimiko, the monarchs pledged the support of the traditional institution in the state for him in his political pursuit.
Governor   Mimiko had earlier consulted with different interest groups in the state, including the the state House of Assembly, religious leaders, captains of industry, workers unions, chiefs and community leaders on the reported invitation from PDP.
During   proceedings, the stakeholders pledged their total support for the governor in his decision regarding  the invitation, even as he was  praised  for the decision to consult  widely.
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues during consultation with Mimiko on the issue, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele, commended  the  move of the governor to consult with the House on the request and  declared that he had the support of  lawmakers in acceding to the overture
“We all joined the Labour Party because of Mr Governor, and for him to have consulted with us over this issue is a great privilege. Like Ruth, we pledge this day that your ( Mimiko) God will always be our God.
“This is the most rational thing to do at the moment in view of the fact that Mr, Governor is not going for a third term in office. He would not have engaged us in this wide consultation if he is a selfish leader. That is why we are offering our support for a better Ondo State” the Speaker had said.
