Confirming the approval, Benue State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Igbiri Daa, who played host to a team from the NSSF and National Sports Commission, headed by its President, Mallam Ibrahim Mohammed on Wednesday last week said the governor had approved the hosting of the multi sports school events and is eagerly looking forward to the over 5,000 Nigerian students between the ages of 6 and 15 for the festival.
He said the governor after receiving the letter quickly acted on it and approved the hosting, as a sports loving governor and particularly happy because it has to do with the youths and Nigerian students, which remain the bedrock of sports development from the grassroots. “When we received the letter, we felt privileged because it is a laudable idea. The state governor approved it and ordered for immediate action. We responded immediately. There is no problem, we are ready and eager to
host it.
“We are happy a team from the NSSF came to familiarise and see facilities on ground. With the governor graciously approving the hosting in Benue, we ask the NSSF to avail us with the necessary technical ideas and inputs for a good festival.”
He promised that his ministry and that of education will put heads together and work out modalities to ensure a memorable festival. Mallam Ibrahim Mohammed had earlier told the commissioner that the visit was to familiarise and see the facilities on ground, including informing the authorities concerned that the technical aspects of the festival will be taken care of by the ministry of sports, while the administrative aspect is that of education ministry. He said the advice on facilities and mode of hosting was necessary to ensure a befitting festival.
