$9.3m arms jet: Senate summons NSA, CDS, COAS

From ADETUTU FOLASADE-KOYI, Abuja
Senate yesterday summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retd), the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Marshal Alex Badeh and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Kenneth Minimah over the $9.3 million seized by South African government.
The South African police on Monday seized the cash allegedly meant for arms purchase from two Nigerians and an Israeli.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, George Sekibo said the NSA, CDS, and the COAS would appear before the committee next Tuesday to brief senators on the matter.
His words: “I have just called the Chief of Defence Staff, the National Security Adviser and Chief of Army Staff to appear before us next week. I don’t want to pre-empt issues because we have not heard details about it but they will be here on Tuesday next week.”
On the sentences handed down to some soldiers over their role in a mutiny months ago, Sekibo said it was not a surprise that death sentence was passed on the 12 soldiers because before they joined the Army, they were aware of the implication of mutiny, adding that before the judgment was passed, the army carried out its investigation on the matter.”
He said soldiers were trained to kill and, therefore, killing was not a big deal to them.
