Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama have
pulled out of Saturday’s Nations Cup qualifier against the Red Devils of
Congo. The goal tender opted to stay back with his club in France as a
measure to avoid contacting the deadly Eboba virus in Nigeria.
We also gathered that some of the Europe- based players had been
warned by their various club sides not to honour any national call until
the virus challenge is adequately addressed.
In Enyeama’s absence, the Super Eagles will be left with Israel-based Austin Ejide and Gombe United’s Chigozie Agbim in goal against the Congolese.
However, the team’s Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, had denied the development, saying the Lille of France first choice goalkeeper was given official permission to be away. Alaiya said Eagles’ manager, Stephen Keshi granted Enyeama leave of absence for the two games against Congo and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“It is better we excuse him instead of bringing him down here without him concentrating. I have asked him to sort himself out, and he can rejoin us in the future. For now, there is no replacement for him because there is no time to do that,” Alaiya quoted Keshi as saying.
Alaiya, however, informed that Rizespor of Turkey defender, Godfrey Oboabona, led other players to Calabar, informing that more players were being expected to arrive the camp.
The players in camp, according to Alaiya are Nosa Igiebor, Uche Nwofor, Ramon Azeez, Sunshine Stars’ Kunle Odunlami, Chigozie Agbim (Gombe United), Osagona Ighadaro (Enugu Rangers) and Warri Wolves duo of Azubuike Egwuekwe as well as Gbolaham Salami.
Alaiya further disclosed that Chinedu Ogbuke may not be available for the game as his club, Schalke 04 is not keen in releasing him.
He stressed that the NFF may report the issue to FIFA.
The team will begin training today under the watchful eyes of Coach Stephen Keshi and his technical crew at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
