N3.2m fraud: Court issues bench warrant against school bursar

An Ibadan Chief Magistrate Court yesterday issued a bench warrant against a former bursar of the Walbrook College, a private school in Samonda, Ibadan, Oyo State, Mr. Omoniyi Olumide, over his failure to appear before the court.
Olumide is standing trial over an allegation of N3.2 million fraud against the college. He was charged to court along two staff of a first generation bank; a customer service attendant, Jumoke Olawoyin and a cashier, Sikiratu Bakare.
While Olawoyin was alleged to have procured the stamped cheques, which Olumide purportedly used to make the withdrawals from the college’s account, Bakare was alleged to have always been attending to Olumide or his suspected allies whenever they came to withdraw money from the school’s account.
They were arraigned for conspiracy, forgery and stealing of N3.2 million, belonging to the Walbrook College. They were alleged to have used fake cheques with forged signatures of the college to make no fewer than 93 withdrawals.
The case came up for hearing yesterday but the prime suspect, Olumide, was not in court, while second and third accused persons were in court.
Adjourning the case till October 8, the presiding chief magistrate, Mrs. O. A Adetujoye, issued a bench warrant on the first accused person to appear before the court.
The school’s external auditor was said to have suspected fraudulent transactions in the account early this year and alerted the college Director, Mr. Thompson Akinwumi.
