No vacancy in Aso Rock – Ministers

Support groups seek automatic PDP ticket for Jonathan
Ahead of 2015 general elections, ministers in the Jonathan administration yesterday declared that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.At a rally held at Eagles Square, tagged, “National Summit of Goodluck Support Groups,” organised by the  Special  Adviser to the  President on Political  Affairs, who also coordinates Goodluck Support Group, Prof Rufai Ahmed Alkali, seven ministers declared that Jonathan has done tremendously well to transform the country and should be compensated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket and ultimately,  a fresh mandate in 2015. Former governor of Adamawa State and Minister of Youth Development, Boni Haruna, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, claimed that despite the enormous security challenges facing the country, President Jonathan has been able to keep the country together and should not be stampeded out of office.
He said: “There is peace in the country and there is no need to ask the man responsible for the peace to leave the scene. President Jonathan has done well and because of this, I and other ministers are saying there is no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2015.”
Akwa -Ibom State Governor and Chairman PDP Governors’ Forum, Godswill Akpabio, spoke in similar vein. He  told the gathering of the party faithful from the six geo-political zones that the nation has witnessed transformation in all sectors of the economy and cautioned that one term would not be enough for the man responsible for the enviable turn-around of the economy.
“ I saw a lot of people standing in the rain, because this is a good thing for which they believe in. I’m here as one of you to say I believe in what you have said, I believe in your vision for Nigeria. I want to say God will bless you. You have come here not just to discuss in a Summit, you want to pass a resolution,  to discuss continuity for Nigeria.
“But from what I’ve seen here, and the reality on ground, there is no need for any discussion, because all the groups here they kept talking about one man, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. And I look around and I see people say I have done well, but they do not happen in one tenure. I am on my second term and the transformation of Mr President and Nigeria, one tenure is not enough for it to happen.
National Coordinator of the Goodluck Support Groups, Prof Alkali disclosed that the summit was “ not just another jamboree, but a platform to create synergy and a productive interface among all support groups who are working towards the same goal” of a fresh mandate for President Jonathan.
Alkali said the presence of Nigerians across ethnic and religious divides at the rally was an expression of confidence in the present administration.
“ Inspite of some challenges that exist in some parts of the country today, the larger framework of Nigeria being a united, strong and prosperous country remains unshaken.
Alkali later presented the communique of the 7,000 groups which urged the party to give President Jonathan its ticket, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
