‘Agric transformation favours peasant farmers’

The Director General of Unique Farmers Association, UFAN, Chief John Paul Adama has said that Agricultural Transformation Agenda, ATA, of President Goodluck Jonathan  administration most favorable to peasant rural farmers as the scheme has eliminated intrigues in the country  who deny armers of their entitlements.

The Agricultural Transformation Agenda was launched at the inception of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to grow the agricultural sector and make farm inputs accessible to farmers directly at subsidized rate.

Adama while speaking with Vanguard at the university town of Nsukka said the era when the ministry of agriculture was in the hands of politicians has ended with the launch of ATA in the country.

‘ATA through rural peasant farmers attests to the fact that they get direct farm inputs supplies from the ministry, which explains that ATA has eliminated all forms of corruption practices by godfathers in the ministry of Agriculture’ he said.

He commended other innovations introduced by the minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina.
‘The Growth Enhancement Support Scheme is another laudable innovation that brings fertilizers directly to the doorsteps of farmers through Electronic Wallet.

‘This year alone e-wallet system which is electronic driven has captured 14million farmers as against the 10 million last year. We hope that every farmer in the country gets certified so that they also get benefit from these incentives.

‘All that is expected of any farmer is to get enlisted by registering his name and phone number in other to get certified and thereafter go to any redemption centre nearb and collects your subsidized fertilizers, seeds.

‘The scheme has made communications among farmers  easier as we get regular up to date information on latest trends in agriculture from the ministry through phone, explaining that  ATA has enriched many farmers in agriculture, which has never  been experienced before ’, he said.
