Osinkolu, who premised his demand on the fact that the party had not fared better under the present executive considering the loss it suffered during the June 21 governorship election in the state, said retaining such structure, would dim the party’s chances in the 2015 general elections.
In a statement in Ado Ekiti yesterday, Osinkolu boasted that the party members would foil the plot allegedly being hatched by some politicians in the APC to retain the present executive in the state in the congress coming up before the expiration of Governor Kayode Fayemi’s tenure on October 15, 2014.
Osinkolu pointed out that Awe and members of his executive had no reason to perpetuate themselves in their respective offices, having failed to do the party proud when the opportunity beckoned.
He said, “The party cannot afford to play to the gallery at this critical time. In politics, you can’t adopt or retain a strategy and structure that had failed you before for future elections. On this basis, Awe and his crew must leave the scene.
“This is not a personal vendetta against anybody , but a necessary and imperative effort that would strengthen our party to be able to confront the PDP in Ekiti in 2015. There are some facts we leaders of APC would have to embrace for us to bounce back and reclaim the state from the PDP.”
Osinkolu also appealed to the party leadership to put machinery in motion that would guarantee all contestants for the State and Federal Legislative elections , a level-playing field.
The APC chieftain advised that the party must move away from the era of imposition and allow the conduct of primaries to field candidates for all elections, to instill internal democratic mechanism in the party.
