Obiano concludes tour of 21 LGAs, tackles waterways emergencies

Anambra State Gov­ernor, Chief Willie Obiano has con­cluded his thank-you tour of 21 local govern­ment areas of the state with stops at Anambra West and Anambra East Local Coun­cils, mostly riverine and agricultural basin, with a promise to ensure prompt response to emergencies in the communities.
Specifically, he pledged to provide floating boat ambu­lances on the state waterways. Governor Obiano, who spoke at Umueze Anam, headquar­ters of Anambra West, said two of the ambulances would be floated in the area to serve the people of the region.
The governor explained that his administration was steadfastly continuing the ex­ecution of ongoing projects but also pursuing a deliberate policy of opening up the food basins of the state in line with its agriculture programme. According to Obiano, “in ad­dition to the ongoing massive road reconstruction in the area, my administration is providing water transportation to improve access to every part of the state. Telephone lines would also be provided to enable the people make contacts with the ambu­lances when the need arises.”
Obiano thanked the people of Anambra West for their mas­sive support during the last gu­bernatorial elections in the state and urged them to keep sup­porting efforts of his govern­ment by preserving and mak­ing effective use of facilities located in their communities.
Reacting to the governor’s visit, an obviously elated mem­ber representing Anambra West in the state House of Assembly, Victor Okoye, said the open­ing up of all rural communities would lead to effective har­nessing of human and material  infrastructure. He described the gesture as a welcome develop­ment and thanked Governor Obiano for giving people of the area a sense of belonging.
On his part, Anambra State Chairman of the All Progres­sives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Mike Kwentoh, praised the governor for implementing people-oriented programmes and urged the people to sustain their support for APGA.
Speaking at Otuocha, head­quarters of Anambra East Local Government Area, Obiano told the crowd that trooped out to welcome him and his entourage that his government was com­mitted to fulfilling his prom­ise to improve the fortunes of farmers and farming commu­nities through his agricultural programmes. He urged APGA members to remain united and sustain voter education to pre­pare people very well for com­ing elections.
The National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, who was also on the tour, stated that the party was growing from strength to strength and would leave no stone unturned in its determination to win all the elective positions in the next general elections in the state.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Anambra East Local Gov­ernment Council, Mr. Hilary Udano, commended the gover­nor for remaining responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people, and assured him that the people were solidly behind him and the party.
Reacting to the Obiano’s visit, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mo­bilisation and a native of the area, Chinedu Obidigwe, urged those representing the state at different levels of government to put the collective interest of the people above every other consideration and emulate his boss’ dedication to duty.
