‘Don’t drag President Jonathan’s name in the mud’

A governorship aspirant, on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Jimeta, has expressed concern over alleged misuse of President Goodluck Jonathan’s name and that of the national chairman of PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu to score cheap popularity ahead of the October 11 by-election.
Jimeta, who is not among the 14 governorship aspirants for the by-election, but aspiring for 2015, said he  raised the alarm on the heels of claims by some of the 14 aspirants that their candidature had been endorsed by or received  the blessings of President Goodluck Jonathan and Alhaji Adamu Mua’zu.
“To this extent, those parading themselves as the chosen candidates either by the Presidency or  the National Chairman of the PDP should be exposed so that their lies and deceptive acts will be revealed and condemned,” he urged, assuring that, “If they want to swindle our people as has been their practice in the past, we know how to handle them now.”
He emphasized authoritatively that, “neither the president nor the National Chairman of the ODP had a chosen candidate amongst our 14 aspirants that have indicated interest in the governorship seat.”
Jimeta also raised the alarm that the party is being hijacked by money bags in Adamawa State, alleging that the said money bags seeking the PDP ticket have surfaced at the state secretariat of the party donating mouth watering offers including more than 40 cars and N30 million cash to the party.
“Some money bags seeking election surfaced at the state secretariat of the PDP on Saturday, August 23, 2014, with some donating over 40 cars and N30 million,” he alleged, lamenting that, “they can buy delegates at whatever cost to have easy access to the party’s ticket .”
According to him, the development would not augur well for the party because of their unpopularity in the state.
“I’m therefore, sounding this warning that should be taken seriously “, he said, arguing that such a development was capable of encouraging money politics and warned that, a big opposition party is eagerly waiting for the wrong choice by the PDP so that it will capitalize on the error and takeover of the state.
“On my part, I must inform you that all my posters, billboards and other campaign paraphernalia bear the year 2015,” he reminded, stating that, “my plan for the forthcoming October, 11, 2014, governorship by-election is to collapse all my campaigns machinery and support the winner of the primary election from the 14 candidates that have procured their forms and are ready for the test of popularity or acceptance at the primaries.”
